Tendinopathies
As for Achilles Tendinopathy, this condition refers to the inflammation of a muscle’s tendon, due to intrinsic or extrinsic causes resulting in tensile overload and injury. Poor biomechanics such as overpronation, limb length difference or joint malalignment may cause increased traction or compression forces on the tendon which result in tissue damage. Systemic causes such as diabetes and inflammatory arthritis, as well as environmental factors such as diet and smoking also have deleterious effects on tendons, including the healing response. Early diagnosis and intervention is essential and treatment may be multi-faceted to address all issues affecting the tendon.
