Stress Fractures

Repeated stress or trauma may cause a small crack or hairline fracture in a bone. This can be due to excessive muscle strain at the bony insertion of the muscle or due to trauma directly to the bone. Symptoms include localized tenderness, possible redness or swelling, pain ranging from mild ache on weight bearing to constant pain in the area during or after activity, which may be sharp in nature.
Stress fractures may be caused by ill-fitting footwear, faulty foot biomechanics such as over-pronating or over-supinating, type of running surface (hard or uneven), muscle tightness or trigger points, tendinopathies, shin splints, weak bones (osteoporosis), or simply repeated trauma.
At Wanneroo Podiatry Surgery we specialize in determining the cause of your problem and implement the best treatment regime to alleviate your symptoms and prevent them from returning.
